Mishpacha Orphanage

Magic in the Air

Sofia was orphaned at age 3 and came to Mishpacha last year after a tumultuous journey. She was one of the lucky children who blossomed in a magical camp experience this summer. Sofia instantly bonded with her counselor, Mushka, who drew her out of her usual shell. It was a joy to see the typically reserved child prancing around stage in costume, running ahead on hikes, and exclaiming delightedly over every activity.

Sofia is one child. One story. This summer, we were privileged to shape many stories full of camaraderie, good times, and great memories.

When we say summer is a magical time, we’re not exaggerating. With generous support from donors around the world and the Odessa community, Mishpacha Children’s Home was able to send 320 orphans to summer camp this year!

It has truly been a breath of fresh air. This was their chance to have fun, laugh and play like ‘regular’ children, those not burdened by a difficult past. With exciting activities, weekly trips, and lots of laughter and love, this enchanting experience fast-tracked the healing we work on all year. You could just see it in the children’s smiles.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the dedicated counselors who showered the children with so much love and support, and gave them a fantastic time every step of the way.  Our children lived it up to the fullest — and they’re already counting down to next year!
