A Summer of Joy and Healing for Mishpacha’s Children

Laughter, the crunch of hiking boots, and the hum of summer adventures fill the air as more than 120 children from Mishpacha Children’s Home in Ukraine enjoy an unforgettable camp experience. For these children—many of whom have endured abandonment, trauma, and loss—summer camp is more than just a break from routine. It is a lifeline.

Thanks to hundreds of donors who rallied behind a fundraising campaign earlier this summer, the children enjoyed weeks of enriching activities designed to bring healing, joy, and a sense of belonging. Camp programs included art workshops, nature hikes, visits to attractions, and plenty of time for connection over shared meals, snacks, and late-night campfires.

“The children come back from camp transformed,” said a staff member at Mishpacha Children’s Home. “They gain confidence, new friendships, and a sense of pride in who they are. It’s hard to overstate the impact.”

More than just fun, the camp’s programming is carefully crafted to strengthen Jewish identity and community connection. Warm and dedicated counselors provide mentorship, and cultural activities celebrate traditions and values that give the children a sense of pride and belonging.

The social benefits are tangible. Many of the children return with improved communication and leadership skills, stronger emotional resilience, and cherished memories that carry them through the year. For the Jewish community in Ukraine, initiatives like this camp play a key role in preserving heritage and fostering a sense of solidarity for the next generation.

The success of this year’s summer camps was made possible by a network of supporters from around the world. Each donation went directly toward giving a child the chance to attend camp in an environment where they could feel safe, supported, and free to simply be kids.

“This is the kind of experience that changes lives,” said one donor. “Knowing that these children had a summer filled with joy and connection means everything.”
